The Oystercatcher

The Oystercatcher is located at the shore of Carlingford Loch and at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. The Oystercatcher is located in Rostrevor, probably Northern Ireland's best village. The accommodation enjoys stunning views and guests can enjoy breakfast enjoy breakfast al fresco whilst enjoying the stunning views.

The village of Rostrevor lies between Slieve Martin and Carlingford Lough. Nearby is the site of an early Christian monastery founded by St Bronagh in the 12th century, whose remains are still to be seen in the local cemetery. This is well worth a visit because there is also a holy well associated with St Bronagh and a pre Christian headstone known as Jiminy Stone. There is a good example of an early Celtic cross and the grave of 'Giant Murphy' who was 8 foot 10 inches tall.

At the opposite end of the village lies Kilbrony Park. This large area of parkland and forest has camping facilities, a restaurant and many interesting walks. One popular walk is to the Cloughmore stone, a huge boulder left over from the glacial period, from where there is a beautiful view of the coastal area and the Cooley mountains. This forest contains one of the last remaining oak groves in Ireland.
